Broken Chain

In Cuff Down, Fingering weight yarn, Patterns, Socks, Toe Up by Shannon

Materials

This is a new take on a sock I designed for a sock club years ago. I always wanted to develop this pattern for a more meditative knitting experience, and of course, add a toe-up option, so voila! These socks feature a really fun Broken Chain medallion pattern, slipped-stitch heels, and both toe-up and cuff-down versions. Great for variegated, speckled, and solid sock yarns, this may just become your new go-to sock pattern.

  • Finished Measurements: Adult small (medium, large): 6 (6.5, 8)”/15 (16.5, 20.5) cm foot circumference. Socks shown with a 4.5″/11.5 cm leg length (measured from top of heel, customizable).
  • Yarn: approximately 200-350 yds/183-320 m fingering-weight yarn. I used Knitted Wit Sock in Sunset on Vacay (rainbow-y socks) & S’Mores (marshmallow’y socks).

  • Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers.
