Check Your Head

A simple yet meditative checkerboard-esque pattern. A fun self-striping yarn. A weekend of fiber tourism. Check Your Head is the perfect pattern to work on as you zip from shop to shop, from knitting haven to knitting haven. Find or make a fun pompom for the top to extend the fun.

Materials

  • Finished Measurements: Hat: Small/Med (Large/Extra Large): 16 (17.5)“ 40.5, (44.5) cm circumference unstretched, 8, (9)” 20.5, (23) cm from brim to tippy-top. Cowl: 25” 63.5 cm circumference, 10” 25.5 cm high.
  • Yarn: Yarn (for the hat): approximately 100 (115) yards/91 (231) m worsted-weight yarn. I used a superwash worsted-weight yarn, but any worsted-weight yarn would work. Yarn (for the cowl): approximately 175 yards/160 m worsted-weight yarn.
  • Needles: US7/4.5mm (or size to obtain gauge) for small circumference knitting.
  • Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle.
  • Gauge: 21 sts & 26 Rs = 4”/10 cm in 2×2 ribbing, measured unstretched after blocking. 22 sts & 28 Rs = 4”/10 cm in Pattern stitch, measured unstretched after blocking.
