Years ago, I had an idea for a pattern. I grabbed three skeins of Knitted Wit‘s gorgeous Single Fingering, and started knitting. I knit. And knit. And knit. And then I decided it would be amazing to offer the pattern in different gauges, so I grabbed three skeins from my stash and started knitting, and before I knew it, I was done.

And Cascade Range was born (and published). In a heavier-weight yarn.

That meant that the fingering weight version, which was more than halfway done, just kind of sat in one of my many project bags. It’s been sitting for quite a while, and I keep coming back to it, wondering if I should finally finish it. Once every few months, I’ll even knit a few rows, thinking, it won’t take me that long to finish, right? But then, I realize that those rows are getting longer and longer, and it’s not just a matter of a few hours to finish. In fact, it’s going to take some serious attention on my part.

The other day, after getting home from our big family road trip, I spent some time trying to reorganize my knitting life (ha!), and came across this project once more. I looked at it, and looked at it, and thought, and fondled, and realized that I have absolutely no clue what to do. So, what better way to make a decision than to cede that power to someone else? Mainly, you guys! Please help me decide what to do – I can either go forward by finishing this version and re-publishing Cascade Range for either aran/bulky (as it is now) OR fingering. OR I can rip and repurpose the yarn, and leave the pattern as-is. What do you all think? Knit or rip? Weigh in in the comments, and in one week (on July 17th), I’ll make my decision.

To sweeten the pot, I’ll randomly choose a winner from the comments and gift that person with a skein of Knitted Wit yarn from my stash AND the Cascade Range pattern.

Comments

  1. My vote is rip it and make something else that you will enjoy knitting. As you know I am an experienced knit ripper.

  2. it doesn’t sound like you are excited about continuing to knit the fingering weight version. maybe you should use your creative powers for something you love designing rather than going back to an old one. you could put a note on the pattern page that an advanced knitter could easily use any gauge of yarn and make it work. and then you can move forward and reclaim the yarn that you will undoubtedly use for something you really will have fun with!

  3. Rip It. If you’re not totally happy with something, there’s no problem with starting over!

    1. Also, I’ve ripped back sweaters that are 3/4 of the say done, so I know how painful it can be also. So I mean, Finish it if you never want to see it again, I guess.

  4. I would like to see the fingering weight weight pattern. Not to pressure you to knit more, I just prefer the look of finer gauge wraps.

  5. Knit , it is beautiful! As a warm person, the fingering weight would be a better choice for me!
