Knit it: Fruit Stripe Scarf

Do you like rainbows? Because, I sure do. And fortunately for me, so does Lorajean at Knitted Wit, which is pretty evident to anyone who’s ever worked with or drooled over her yarn. And I love the thought of knitting a rainbow, which is exactly what I was able to do when designing the Fruit Stripe Scarf.

When she gave me a veritable rainbow of Gobstoppers in her single-color Rock Candies, and asked me to make something with them, my brains almost exploded from the gorgeous possibilities.

I have been quite taken with the simple chevron lately – a perfect pairing of increases and decreases makes the knitted fabric behave in a really awesome way, and decided to work one single chevron to great effect in the Fruit Stripe Scarf.

I then played around with varying widths of color striping, adding in a bit of texture in a garter-stitch ridge of main color, making this one scarf that will really fly off of your needles.

You know those patterns where you are thirsty, or you have to pee, or you really need to make dinner or change the laundry, but you find yourself saying, oh, just one more repeat, and then I’ll fulfill my non-knitting obligations? This is one of them.

Just please, for your own good, don’t actually chew any Fruit Stripe gum. It’s not what you remember from your youth…
