Knit them: Sundae Socks

In Blog, Knittish by Shannon1 Comment

Sometimes, a pattern just gets in your head, and you can’t stop, won’t stop making it. Over and over and over. That’s what’s been happening with these Sundae Socks, my newest pattern and a fantastically delicious collaboration with Knitted Wit.

Sundae Socks

See, it all started at TNNA in June. JJ, idea-generator and work-wife extraordinairre, suggested I write a sock pattern with a bunch of different cuff options to highlight the Rock Candy colorways of Victory Sock. We all thought wee anklets would display best, and asked my dad, who makes fantastic things out of wood for knitters, to create a display for January’s TNNA (he’s working on it, and it is fantastic).

Sundae Socks three in a row

The three of us (LJ, JJ, and me – also, I really need to get a J in my name!) discussed the pattern and the project – there would have to be options for both kinds of “bowls” (toe-up and cuff-down construction), and the cuff options would all have to be fairly simple, so folks feel empowered to make a bunch. You can make a picot cuff, a lacy one, a plain one. You can add a pompom or some ribbing. You can start at the top, you can start at the toe. The world is your Sundae!

chilling in my Sundae Sock

I’ve made eight single sample socks so far (with plans for at least three more), and four and a half pairs for my own feet. They’re great to wear with leggings & dresses, and, because the cuff’s so darned short, it’s a fairly fast project.

Sundae Socks and sundaes!

Lorajean is offering a deal right now on this project – buy one skein of sock yarn (a one-scoop Sundae), and get the pattern download code for free. Buy three skeins of sock yarn (a three-scoop Sundae), and get the pattern download code for free AND free shipping. I’ll be announcing a KAL in my Ravelry group later today, so get that yarn ordered, people! These sweet socks would be a fabulous holiday gift for some special tootsies in your life.

  1. I am so going to add “idea-generator” to my business cards! Also….possibly Shannon Squire’s work-wife. And then next time you do a Sundae photo shoot I want to come! I will totally help with clean up!
