I have a LOT of English Paper Piecing blocks and motifs and projects started and small shapes I’m playing with and samples for classes and this, that, and the other. I mean a LOT. What to do with a zillion half-finished EPP projects? Put them on a garment/bag/journal! (It’s like that old Portlandia sketch, Put a Bird On It, but with hexies!)
Some things I have put EPP on:
My journal! I use a Hobonichi cousin for my daily journal, and I sewed a hexie flower right onto the cover. I used my sewing machine and a decorative stitch, and oh, how I love it!
A Pincusion! I used a hexie flower + 2 squares of fabric to make a sweet pincushion (filled with walnut shells, which help sharpen pins and needles). Plus the same decorative stitch on my sewing machine.
A Sweatshirt! I used some Heat-n-Bond lite on the back of a big hexie block and sewed it onto a sweatshirt! You don’t NEED the fusible interfacing, but it helped and I just wanted to use/try it! Oh, look, there’s that fave decorative stitch again 😉
Some shorts! I just did this one yesterday – I recently bought some camo shorts that are kind of boring (but they fit and they don’t ride up in the crotch area; if you know, you know), and I added a hexie flower to them. They might need some more embroidery, but they are 100% cuter already! (This photo is terrible, so I’ll try to update, heehee). And also, hello decorative stitch!
Pillows! I’ve made a few pillows using EPP blocks/motifs and they are favorites, for sure. I will be making more, mark my words! Plus, I get to play with hand quilting on a small scale, which is my fave! (I have a hand-quilted big quilt in progress and I keep coming back to it, and I always think to myself: will I ever finish it? This size project is actually finishable.)
I’m sure there will be more ridiculous EPP projects in my future, but I’m wondering: what would you put a hexie on?
