If you aren’t into permanence…

Earlier this week, I shared a little ditty of a poem I wrote to my sock ruler tattoo, but realized that permanently marking oneself in the pursuit of hobby and craft isn’t everyone’s style. Luckily for all of you, my buddy Maria from A Needle Runs Through It has created a fantastic sock ruler that is a perfect stand-in for a leg tattoo. It fits in your sock bag, it works equally well for toe-up and cuff-down socks, and it even has a needle gauge and short Kitchener instructions built in. Best of all, it’s hand-made by an amazing person.

  1. This is a clever idea; thanks for sharing it. Are you familiar with the Fish Lips Kiss Heel by Sox Therapist? Her pattern includes instructions for making a cool, personalized template of your (or someone else’s) foot. It tells you when to stop increasing at the toe and when to start the heel (which is super easy and, I think, nicer looking than so many heel patterns). What stitch pattern you use beyond that is completely up to you. I resisted making socks for so long, but finally gave into peer pressure from my Bay Area knitting group. I make them two at a time on two circulars using the FLKH method, and after the first pair I was converted! Your socks are gorgeous and are inspiring me to get back to making them again!
